This Monday, May 25, 2026 at the Saanich Council Meeting that begins at
6:30 pm, Council will approve or not approve, an eight townhouse development
proposed by Seba Construction.

Our Dean Heights Neighbourhood Group submitted a petition with close to 600 signatures who signed on to save our eighty year old super shade tree we call Big Monty! We also submitted another petition with over 300 who were against the height and mass, loss of trees, lack of on-site parking and the increased traffic
to Dean Avenue a much used, community friendly pedestrian/bike route.
Our group staged a Save Big Monty rally and in the video, some 60 of us
are chanting…Save Big Monty! Save Big Monty!

On January 7, 2025, Head Planner for Saanich, Christine Rickards said:
Planning and Engineering have been instructed to make every effort to
save Big Monty. In Seba’s plan being presented this Monday, there is
virtually no plan to save Monty. In fact, they plan to build pretty much
on top of her!

Ms. Rickards also said that the secondary suites planned for six of the
eight units are not allowed. These suites remain in Seba’s plan!
Seba makes no plans for guest parking Ms. Rickards is quoted as
saying: Planning staff do not support zero guest parking.

If you can believe it, Seba is also asking for five variances!

The plan Seba intends to present Monday night needs to be massively
overhauled. Their proposal should be clearly rebuked and sent back with
clear instructions for revision!
