Eby achieves the goal lobbied to him by the UDI 4 years previously, by overriding West Vancouver’s local government autonomy on zoning.
The Eby Government continues to tyrannize local governments that don’t achieve the UDI’s agenda fast enough according to their liking.

Above: Slide from lobbying presentation provided to David Eby by the UDI Executive Committee, while Eby was the Attorney General/Minister Responsible for Housing. Eby would be anointed head of his party, and then Premier by the end of that year.

Last fall I wrote the following article:
The David Eby Confession: Premier Eby talking to the ‘Condo King’ Bob Rennie, finally spilled the beans in front of the camera, on how UDI lobbying played key role in the creation of the Provincial Housing Bills. – CRD Watch Homepage
The Premier admitted that the UDI’s advocacy (lobbying) played an important role in the creation of the housing targets at his UDI Luncheon with the so-called Condo King of Vancouver Bob Rennie at the Hyatt in October. He also stated to Rennie at the Luncheon quote: “We have taken big political risks around expanding fast access to density and forcing municipalities that are opposing density to take it.”

Previously I had written an article exposing Eby’s 180 on Rennie after shifting from from opposition, to power.
David Eby Before and After: How David Eby’s former criticisms of the political influence of the so-called ‘Condo King’ of Vancouver Bob Rennie, when Eby was a member of the opposition; turned once in power, to Eby becoming Rennie’s political follower. – CRD Watch Homepage
Now Eby ever serving his UDI masters’ financial interests, has forced through his government, West Vancouver to take it.
B.C. orders West Vancouver to implement plan to build more homes and meet its target – North Shore News
“The Housing Ministry issued a statement Tuesday saying West Vancouver has only delivered 58 of the 220 new units in housing targets set for it by the provincial government.
The statement says the province has ordered the district to implement its Ambleside Centre Plan, bringing West Vancouver into compliance on its “overdue directives.”

Eby has thus once again fulfilled the UDI’s much lobbied-for corporate coup over local government in British Columbia.
The month after the UDI’s lobbying to Eby on this issue in March 2022, Nathan Cullen, the Minister of Municipal Affairs at the time put forward in April of 2022, a Cabinet Concept Paper with the title: “Provincial Intervention to Allow More Homes (Gentle Density)”.
This was not about gentle density however, in it can be seen the origin of Bill 44, which would allow increases of up to 4 to 6 times the density in single family home neighbourhoods across much of the Province, without a public hearing.

Ministry of Housing Notes from UDI Executive Committee: “one [of the] potential flaws is that LG [Local Government] has to answer to the electorate and likely continue [to] show NIMBYISM. How do we ensure population is educated that there are consequences over time if LG [Local Governments] don’t do, otherwise public will throw councils out over elections.” “Some council members who approved [the Arbutus development] will pay the price from public, and may see more political churn as the politicians need to be able to answer.
