I made an FOI to the BC Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs regarding proposed Bill M216. The OIPC granted them a half year extension.

This follows already a quarter of the year having passed since I made the FOI request at the end of last year.

Freedom from information and obscurantism is the name of the game. Why is the public not able in a timely manner to have transparency from its own government?

On Dec 30, 2025 – I made the following Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs for:

All records regarding Bill M 216 The Professional Reliance Act, including all communications about it.

(Date Range for Record Search: From 1/1/2024 To 12/30/2025

The Ministry provided acknowledgement on Jan 20, 2026:

After the first quarter of 2026 had passed, I received a letter from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) notifying me that it had granted a 180 day extension for the Ministry, essentially a half year extension.

On March 25, 2026,

I sent a letter in response to the OIPC:

Hello, I am writing to the OIPC to review this decision.

Information is not free, if it cannot be delivered in a timely manner.

Thank you,
Sasha Izard
