List of campaign donations made by those involved in development and real estate to the campaigns of those who were elected to Saanich council in the 2022 election.

The 2022 General Local Government election saw those involved in development and real estate not surprisingly backing council candidates across much of the Province.

In this article is listed the campaign donations for those who were elected to Saanich Council in 2022, courtesy of information from Election BC’s website.

Also in this article are lists of campaign donations from those identified in development and real estate for those elected to Saanich council in 2022. This list is almost certainly incomplete, as some of those who donated, are difficult to identify whether or not they are involved in development or real estate.

Also it should be taken into consideration that campaign donations from spouses and close family members of those involved in development and real estate are not included in the lists.

Those who work in fields that profit from development and real estate, but were considered peripheral, were not counted for statistical purposes as being involved in development and real estate, but could be considered to be indirectly e.g. those involved in a roofing company as just one of many examples.

If any donations to campaigns from those involved in development and real estate were missed, or if any corrections or additional information is needed, please email CRDWatch@mail.com

The information of the source of campaign donations were compiled from Elections BC. The date ranges for the search were Jan 1, 2020 to Oct 15, 2022, as this time period would include donations for the 2022 campaign, starting from earlier years.

Note: The figures below cannot provide a full picture of the campaign donations from those involved in development and real estate in Saanich during the last election. According to the Provincial election rules campaign donations from donors who donated under $100 are anonymous.

The same applies to 3rd party election advertising sponsors. Homes For Living for example, one such sponsor, which advanced a development agenda, supported the campaigns of the majority of the candidates that got elected or re-elected to Saanich, Victoria and Oak Bay councils. The vast majority of the donations to that organization were made anonymously.

See: Over 93% of the donors to the 3rd Party Election Advertising Sponsor Homes For Living during the 2022 Local Government Election, donated anonymously. Serious questions need to be raised with the Province over the lack of transparency surrounding local government election campaign financing. – CRD Watch Homepage

That is really interesting, developers contributed more in Saanich than in Victoria. I’ve attached what I compiled for Victoria mayor and council.

Very interesting. Do you have similar numbers from organized labour?GeorgeC: 250-858-0780

It may be that a significant amount of donations from organized labour are not visible because they are under anonymous donations (those under $100), or from individuals that are involved that donated higher than that amount, the latter of which would be included in the reported named donations by Elections BC.
